1,2-Pentanediol is an important organic intermediate used in the synthesis of propiconazole, a fungicide specifically for economic crops. It also possesses excellent moisturizing and preservative properties, making it suitable for various skincare products such as creams, eye creams, lotions, baby care products, and sunscreens. It is also a crucial raw material for the production of polyester fibers, surfactants, and pharmaceuticals.
Product Characteristics
1. Broad-spectrum antibacterial activity, effectively inhibiting Gram-negative bacteria, Gram-positive bacteria, yeasts, and molds.
2. As a emollient, pentanediol exhibits excellent skin moisturizing properties, reducing moisture loss from the skin, leaving it soft and smooth, and enhancing the moisturizing function of skincare products.
3. Pentanediol is a multifunctional component with outstanding inhibitory capabilities against microorganisms. It is not registered as a preservative and is permitted for use in cosmetics, fully supporting the "zero preservative" concept.
4. Mild and non-irritating, reducing irritation and allergies caused by preservatives. It is also a high-purity liquid emollient with broad-spectrum antibacterial activity, classified as an emollient, very gentle, conforming to international regulatory trends, and widely used globally.

Skincare Applications
1,2-Pentanediol is a small-molecule humectant, a synthetic humectant used as a solvent and preservative in cosmetics and beauty products. It has water-locking and antibacterial functions and can improve the water resistance of sunscreens. However, this ingredient may cause slight eye irritation but is non-irritating to the skin. Pentanediol can be used in emulsification systems, water-based systems, anhydrous formulations, and surfactant-based detergent systems, especially suitable for baby products and additive-free products. Examples include creams, lotions, shower gels, wet wipes, toners, and shampoos. Additionally, pentanediol can effectively prevent the growth of fungi in wet wipes.
Chemical Properties
1,2-Pentanediol is a colorless, transparent liquid with a b.p. of 206℃, n20D of 1.4400, and a relative density of 0.971. It is soluble in organic solvents such as alcohols, ethers, and ethyl acetate.
Uses
