Introduction
Ethyl ascorbic acid ether (3-O-ethyl ascorbic acid ether) is a very useful vitamin C derivative. It is not only chemically stable and colorless, but also an amphoteric substance, greatly expanding its applications, especially in daily chemical products. 3-O-ethyl ascorbic acid ether easily penetrates the stratum corneum into the dermis. Once inside the body, it is readily broken down by enzymes, thus exerting the biological effects of vitamin C.
Structural Characteristics: 3-O-ethyl ascorbic acid ether is also called vitamin C ethyl ether. Because vitamin C has four hydroxyl groups in its structure, it cannot be directly absorbed by the skin and is easily oxidized, causing discoloration, which limits its use as a whitening agent in cosmetics. Vitamin C ethyl ether, obtained by alkylating the 3-hydroxyl group, is a colorless vitamin C derivative that does not affect its biological activity, thus filling a gap in the market for similar products. Studies have shown that vitamin C ethyl ether is easily broken down by enzymes after entering the skin, thus exerting the effects of vitamin C.
Uses
Vitamin C ethyl ether (VC ethyl ether) is an amphoteric vitamin C derivative that is both lipophilic and hydrophilic. It retains the redox properties of vitamin C and is highly stable, being a colorless vitamin C derivative. Its amphoteric nature makes it extremely convenient to use in formulations and allows it to easily penetrate the stratum corneum and reach the dermis. Once inside the skin, it is easily broken down by enzymes to exert its vitamin C effects, thus improving its bioavailability.

Applications
3-O-ethyl ascorbic acid ether (vitamin C ethyl ether) is a bisoluble substance, allowing formulators to add it to either the oil or water phase, and at either high or low temperatures, thus facilitating its use. More importantly, this bisoluble property allows it to more easily penetrate the stratum corneum and reach the dermis to exert its biological effects, a property not possessed by other vitamin C derivatives. It can inhibit tyrosinase activity, blocking melanin formation; it has whitening and spot-removing effects (when added at 2%); it combats sun-induced inflammation, possessing strong antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties; simultaneously, it improves dull skin, giving it radiance and elasticity, repairing skin cell activity, and promoting collagen production.
