Uses: Dye intermediate. 5-Aminosalicylic acid (5-ASA, pharmaceutical name: Masalazine) is an important pharmaceutical and dye chemical raw material, and also a major raw material for sulfasalazine, a drug used to treat chronic colitis, which itself has similar therapeutic effects. Due to the presence of three active reactive groups (hydroxyl and carboxyl groups) on its ring, 5-aminosalicylic acid can undergo various reactions; therefore, in the dye industry, it can be used to manufacture a variety of high-quality reactive dyes. It is also used in the manufacture of photosensitive paper.
Uses: Aminosalicylic acid, also known as mesalazine, can be used as a treatment for ulcerative colitis, significantly inhibiting inflammation of the intestinal wall; it can inhibit the synthesis of prostaglandins that cause inflammation and the formation of leukotrienes, an inflammatory mediator, thus significantly inhibiting inflammation of the intestinal mucosa. It is even more effective on the connective tissue of inflamed intestinal walls. Used for ulcerative colitis, ulcerative proctitis, and Crohns disease.
Applications: 5-Aminosalicylic acid is a peroxidase substrate suitable for ELISA analysis. This substrate produces a brown, soluble end product, which can be read spectrophotometrically at 450 nm. The reaction is terminated by adding 3NNaOH, and the result is then read at 550 nm.
