Introduction

Podophyllotoxin, also known as pudafiloyl, is a non-alkaloid lignan toxin. It is extracted from the rhizome of Podophyllum. Its ethanol solution and ointment are marketed under the trade names Kangdinglai and Huayoudi, respectively, and can be used topically to treat condyloma acuminata caused by human papillomavirus (HPV). Podophyllotoxin and its synthetic derivatives, such as etoposide and teniposide, have shown broad applicability in antiviral and antitumor applications. Its anticancer activity has been extensively studied and it is used in chemotherapy for lung cancer, lymphoma, and reproductive tumors.

Indications

Topical application of podophyllotoxin is primarily used to treat condyloma acuminata of the genitals or anus in men and women, and can also be used for other viral warts. Side effects: Topical application of podophyllotoxin often causes burning, pain, and erythema. After the warts fall off, superficial ulcers or erosions may appear. A small number of male patients may experience significant edema and erosion at the site of treatment for condyloma acuminata around the genitals. If you experience any discomfort while using this medication, please consult your doctor or pharmacist promptly. Chemical Properties: White needle-like crystals, readily soluble in methanol and chloroform. Derived from the rhizome of *Podophyllum hexandrum* (Berberis genus) and the roots and stems of *Podophyllum huashanense* (Podophyllum genus). Uses: A microtubule assembly and DNA topoisomerase II inhibitor. Podophyllotoxin is a potent inhibitor of microtubule assembly that binds to the colchicine site of tubulin. It is an anti-inflammatory glycoside and antitumor agent. Also, podophyllotoxin is a TopoII (DNA topoisomerase II) and tubulin inhibitor.

Uses
Mainly used for condyloma acuminata, but can also be used for other viral warts to inhibit microtubule assembly; antitumor. Clinically used for acute monocytic and acute myelomonocytic leukemia, acute myeloid leukemia, chronic eosinophilic leukemia, small cell lung cancer, non-Hodgkins lymphoma, testicular cancer, etc. Production Method
