Methylmagnesium chloride is a highly reactive Grignard reagent widely used in organic synthesis for nucleophilic addition reactions, particularly in the formation of carbon-carbon bonds. It is commonly employed to produce alcohols by reacting with carbonyl compounds (aldehydes, ketones, esters) and to synthesize pharmaceuticals, agrochemicals, and specialty chemicals. This reagent is also used in polymerization reactions and as a strong base for deprotonation. Due to its extreme sensitivity to moisture and air, it must be handled under inert gas (nitrogen) and typically supplied in ethereal solutions (THF).
