Chemical Properties
Yellow needle-like crystals. Melting point 173℃ (decomposes). Easily soluble in ether and alkaline solutions, slightly soluble in alcohol, insoluble in water, chloroform, and benzene. This product is unstable in alkaline solutions and precipitates sulfur upon prolonged standing. It is unstable in air and light. Store in a light-protected, nitrogen-filled bottle. Uses: This product is an analytical reagent. It reacts with bismuth to form a red color, with copper to form a brown color, and with lead to form a bright yellow precipitate. Used for colorimetric determination of bismuth, and spectrophotometric determination of antimony and palladium.
