Product Description
Methyl cyanoacetate is an intermediate product in the organic synthesis of pharmaceuticals and some bioactive compounds used in synthetic agriculture. It undergoes a Knövenagel condensation reaction with aromatic aldehydes catalyzed by calcite or fluorite to yield the corresponding arylmaleitrile and (E)-α-cyanate esters. Methyl cyanoacetate is an important pharmaceutical and chemical raw material; it can be used to synthesize important chemical products such as cyanoacetamide, malononitrile, gabapentin, and pyrimidineamines. Preparation Method: In a 500ml three-necked flask equipped with a stirrer, thermometer, and distillation apparatus, 100g (1mol) of industrial-grade 99% methyl cyanoacetate, 224g (3mol) of industrial-grade 99% tert-butanol, and 3g of analytical-grade sodium tert-butoxide were added. The mixture was stirred and heated to 80°C, and reacted for 10 hours. After recovering the tert-butanol under reduced pressure, the pH of the solution was adjusted to 8 with acetic acid, and then distilled. 125g of tert-butyl cyanoacetate was obtained, with a yield of 88% and a purity of 99% (GC).

Uses:
Methyl cyanoacetate, like ethyl cyanoacetate, is an important intermediate in pesticide production. It is used in the preparation of 2-amino-4,6-dimethoxypyrimidine, which is used to prepare sulfonylurea herbicides. It is also an intermediate in the pharmaceutical production of methyl 2-cyanoacrylate. Uses: This product is an intermediate in organic synthesis, pharmaceuticals, and dyes. It is mainly used in the manufacture of adhesives (such as the medical adhesive methyl 2-cyanoacrylate), vitamin B6, malononitrile, etc. Ethyl cyanoacetate and butyl cyanoacetate can be produced using similar processes, mainly used as adhesives and cyanoacrylate fast-drying adhesives, which can be used for bonding in pharmaceuticals, automotive parts, and household appliance assembly.

Production Methods
1. Chloroacetic acid and methanol esterification method: Chloroacetic acid and methanol are esterified to produce methyl chloroacetate. The purified methyl chloroacetate is obtained by distillation, and then reacted with sodium cyanide to obtain a crude product. This crude product is then filtered, distilled under normal pressure, and distilled under reduced pressure to obtain the final methyl cyanoacetate product.
2. Cyanoacetic acid and methanol esterification method: Cyanoacetic acid, methanol, and sulfuric acid are added to a reactor, heated under reflux for 3 hours, cooled to 10°C, neutralized with sodium carbonate solution, and distilled at 132-136°C and 2.133 kPa to obtain the final methyl cyanoacetate product.
