Properties
Triclosans characteristics:
1. Appearance: White crystalline powder with a slightly aromatic or phenolic odor;
2. Solubility: Slightly soluble in water, moderately soluble in dilute alkalis, soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol and acetone, and can be dissolved in surfactants to form a transparent concentrated liquid product;
3. Stability: Excellent storage stability: It does not decompose rapidly below 280-290℃; after heating at 200℃ for 14 hours, only 2% of the active substance decomposes, and even under prolonged ultraviolet light irradiation, only slight decomposition occurs. Its solution is stable to acids and alkalis;
4. Volatility: It has very low volatility and a slightly aromatic odor.


Introduction Triclosan is an internationally popular, highly effective, and safe topical antibacterial disinfectant. It can kill Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, and Candida albicans, and has disinfecting effects against pyogenic cocci and enteropathogenic fungi. Triclosan is a highly effective broad-spectrum topical antibacterial disinfectant, also known as dichlorophenoxychlorophenol, triclosan, chlorpheniramine, triclosan, chlorpheniramine, triclosan, and triclosan. It is normally a white or grayish-white crystalline powder with a slight phenolic odor. It is insoluble in water but readily soluble in alkaline solutions and organic solvents.

Chemical Properties It is stable, temperature-resistant, and resistant to acid and alkali hydrolysis. It does not exhibit any toxicity or environmental pollution and is an internationally recognized highly effective bactericide. It can kill bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli, as well as fungi such as Candida albicans. It also has an inhibitory effect on viruses (such as hepatitis B virus) while protecting beneficial bacteria. Triclosans bactericidal mechanism involves adsorbing onto the bacterial cell wall, penetrating it, and reacting with lipids and proteins in the cytoplasm, causing protein denaturation and ultimately killing the bacteria. It is currently widely used in daily chemical products such as high-efficiency medicated soaps (hygienic soaps, sanitary washes), deodorants (athletes foot sprays), disinfectant hand sanitizers, wound disinfectant sprays, medical device disinfectants, facial cleansers (creams), air fresheners, and refrigerator deodorizers. It is also used in the finishing of sanitary textiles and the preservation of plastics. High-purity versions can be used in therapeutic toothpastes and mouthwashes for treating gingivitis, periodontitis, and oral ulcers. National regulations stipulate that its content must not exceed 0.3%.

Applications
Triclosan can be used in the following products: high-efficiency disinfectant soaps or medicated soaps; antibacterial soaps, deodorant soaps, and sanitary soaps; bath liquids and antibacterial liquid detergents; antibacterial dishwashing liquids; antibacterial fabric detergents; products for eliminating underarm odor or athletes foot; facial cleansers and antibacterial skin creams; disinfectant hand sanitizers; medical device disinfectants; wound disinfectants; air fresheners and refrigerator deodorizers; and antibacterial finishing agents for fabrics.

Chemical Properties
Colorless, long needle-like crystals. Melting point 54-57.3℃ (60-61℃). Slightly soluble in water, soluble in ethanol, acetone, ether, and alkaline solutions. Has a chlorophenol odor.

Uses
Preservative and antifungal agent, used in cosmetics, emulsions, and resins; also used in the manufacture of disinfectant soaps. The oral LD50 for mice is 4 g/kg.

Applications: Used in the production of high-end daily chemical products, and in the formulation of medical and food industry equipment disinfectants and antibacterial and deodorizing finishing agents for fabrics. Triclosan (Irgasan) is a broad-spectrum antibacterial agent that inhibits type II fatty acid synthase (FAS-II) in bacteria and Plasmodium, as well as mammalian fatty acid synthase (FASN), and may also have anticancer activity.
